Indian Pharma Market Oct'17 Update - Growth inching up, touches 6.5%

It’s been four months since the onset of GST. During the preceding month (June) before the launch of GST, and immediate month after the launch, were near washout for the industry, due to de-stocking. Since then growth has been gradually inching upwards, and in October, it has shown definite sign of revival.

Growth during October was 6.5%, compared to just 2.4% in August. So, it’s been an upward trend consistently. It is assumed that this positive movement will continue and industry will achieve double digit growth again, in next few months.

Key Highlights

  1. Growth during April-October months has been just 4.1%. Clear sign of GST impact
  2. Anti-infectives showed slight growth of 1.6%, while Dermatology posted a double digit 13.5% growth again, which was better than previous month’s growth.
  3. Gastrointestinal has shown strong turnaround, and grew at 7.8%, while Vitamins grew by 4.8%
  4. In chronic segment, Anti-diabetic also had double digit growth of 11.4%, Cardio grew by 7.6%, and CNS growth was 5.7%, better than last month
  5. In April-October 17 period, only Derma and Anti-diabetics had double digit growth of 11.6% and 13.9% respectively
  6. Growth Drivers for previous months were - 5.6% Volume growth, -1.7% due to Price Increase & 2.6% on account of New Introductions.
  7. During October running quarter, volume growth has been at 3% & price growth at –1.8%, while the new products growth at 2.6%

 8.      Impact Of FDC

a.     FDC related market grew by 10.3%, while the

      non-FDC market growth was 7.2%, and

      that of single molecules was 5.8%

b.     In FDC growth, price was 0.5%, volumes at

      9.3%, and new launches at 0.6%

c.   The non-FDC growth - volumes at 5.6%,

     prices at -0.8%, new launches at 2.6%

d.    The single molecules are driven by volumes

      at 5.5% however the prices are pulling

      down at -2.6% while NPs are growing at 2.9%

e.     MNCs growth was 6.3%, and that of Indian

      companies was 6.6%

 

Other Highlights

The market clocked Rs. 10,376 crores with 6.5% growth in the previous month

Corporate

  1. Amongst the top 10 Corporates, GSK had the highest growth at 23.7%, followed by  Mankind at 21.1% and Alkem at 13.2%
  2. 43 Corporates had positive growth amongst top 50
  3. Hetero had the highest growth of 32.6%, followed by GSK at 23.7% and Natco at 22.7%.
  4. Amongst the 11-20 ranked Corporates, Torrent had the highest growth at 9.8%, followed by Glenmark at 8.6% and USV at 7.6%
  5. Amongst the 21-30 ranked Corporates, Natco grew at 22.7%, followed by Himalaya at 13.2%
  6. Amongst the 31-40 ranked Corporates, Hetero grew by 32.6%, followed by Meyer Organics at 11.6% and Ajanta at 10.6%
  7. Amongst the 41-50 ranked Corporates, Allergan growth was 21.3%, followed by Raptakos Brett at 17.9% and Medley at 16.4%
  8. Amongst the 51-60 ranked Corporates, Eli Lilly leads at 24.5%, followed by Corona at 21.6% and Hegde & Hegde at 14.1%
  9. Amongst the 61-70 ranked Corporates, Shreya grew by 21%, followed by Geno at 11.1% and Danone at 10%
  10. Amongst the 71-80 ranked Corporates, East India grew at 15.6%, followed by Biological E at 6.7%
  11. Amongst the 81-90 ranked Corporates, Koye grew at 26.1%, followed by Jagsonpal at 26% and Oaknet HC at 22.4%
  12. Amongst the 91-100 ranked Corporates, Leeford HC grew at 83.9%, followed by Sanzyme at 35.3% and Piramal HC at 35% 
  13. Amongst the 101-150 ones, few Corporates with good growth were - Torque, Veritaz, Paras, Menarini, Paviour, Gufic, Indian Immunologicals, Celon Labs,  Reliance LS,  Entod, KLM Pharma,  Bennet, Glowderma, Saffron ec.

Companies

  1. Abbott HC grew at 9.5%, while Abbott India had faster growth at 13.7%
  2. Sun Portfolio grew at 5%, while Ranbaxy portfolio had 6.7% growth

Indian V/s MNC

  1. Indian companies grew at 6.6%, vis-à-vis MNCs growth of 6.3%
  2. Amongst the top 50 MNCs, Eli Lilly grew fastest at 24.5 %, followed by GSK at 23.7% and Allergan at 21.3%
  3. In the non-NLEM category, Indian companies grew by 7.3 %, whereas MNCs growth was 6.2%

NLEM, non-NLEM & Non-Scheduled Para 19 Market

The NLEM 2013 containing molecules market grew at 3.3%, whereas the non-NLEM market grew at 7.1% resulting in an overall growth of 6.5 %

Therapy

  1. 18 therapies had positive growth during the previous month
  2. Respiratory grew at 8.7%, Gastro Intestinal at 7.8%, while analgesics growth was 3.7%
  3. In chronic care, Anti-diabetic grew at 11.4%, Cardiac at 7.6 %, Neuro/CNS at 5.7%
  4. Anti-Malarials de-grew by -19.8% & VMS growth was lower at 4.8%
  5. Derma had the fastest growth at 13.5%

Regional Dynamics

  1. 27 regions clocked positive growth
  2. North Karnataka grew fastest at 36.1%, followed by South Karnataka at 17.8% & West Bengal rest at 12.9%

Molecules

  1. Amoxycillin + Clavulanic Acid recovery at 10.6%, while Glimepiride + Metformin grew at 4.8%
  2. Glimepiride + Metformin clocked Rs. 170 crores, while Amoxycillin + Clavulanic Acid Rs. 175.4
  3. Azilsartan size is now Rs. 45.3 crores on MAT basis, Sofosbuvir and its combination touched Rs. 561 crore on MAT basis
  4. The Luliconazole is worth Rs. 201.5 crores, while Tenegliptin and its combinations at Rs. 553 crore
  5. The Paracetamol plain de-grew by -1.06%%, plain Atorvastatin declined by -2.84%, Probiotic Microbes grew by 3.82%, Pantoprazole plain growth was 16.7%, Montelukast + Levocetrizine grew by 6%, Voglibose + Metformin + Glimepiride grew at 18.9%, Plain Azithromycin at 4.27%

Brands

  1. Mixtard leads Rs. with 40 crores, followed by Glycomet GP at Rs. 35 crores, Spasmoproxyvon Plus at Rs. 39 crores, Lantus at Rs. 30 crores, Galvus Met at Rs. 22.5 crores, Liv52 at Rs. 27 crores and Janumet at Rs. 34 crores
  2. Few brands which gained ranks on MAT basis were - Novomix (+8), Cilacar (+26), Udiliv (+22), Ultracet (+8), Duolin, (+31), Gluconorm G (+15), Telma H (+7), Allegra (+18), Synflorix (+14), Gemer (+13), Ecosprin AV (+18), Duphaston (+15),Pan D (+9), Istamet (+11)

Recent New Launch Molecule Performance

  1. Azilsartan, recently launched is now valued at Rs. 45.3 crore. 40 brands already launched. On MAT basis, with Zilarbi (Emcure) leads, followed by Aztric (Intas) and Abel (Lupin)
  2. Luliconazole is worth Rs. 201.5 crores on MAT basis, with 34 brands already in the market
  3. Benidipine and its combinations is now valued at Rs. 12.6 crores on MAT basis, with Inzit (Eris) leads, followed by Benitowa (Akumentis) and Benipack (Koye) 
  4. Acotiamide is now valued at Rs. 41 crores with Acogut (Lupin) leading, followed by Actapro (Sun) & Acotrust (DRL)
  5. Dulaglutide launched under the brand name Trulicity by Eli Lilly, with sales of Rs. 17 crores

New Launches (launched in Oct-17)

  1. 8 new brands launched in Anti-diabetic, 7 brands in VMS, 10 brands in Cardiac, 14 brands in Derma and 41 brands in Gastroenterology
  2. Sartel Beta, Benlong, LipoTab  are the top three brands launched in Cardiac segment.
