Transasia Bio-Medicals which was fiunded in 1979 with an initial capital of Rs 250, had an unusual start. When Suresh Vazirani, got Rs 1 lakh from an acquaintance for his nascent health-care business, he went on a six-month-long world tour. It wasn't a leisure trip, though. Vazirani, an electrical engineer, visited multinational companies to get trained in handling diagnostics equipment. He came back with a contract to distribute a Japanese company's equipment in India. In his own words, "I did not have money to buy the products," he recalls. "So I would help (hospitals and doctors) import equipment and provide them technical support." That's how Transasia came into being.

It started as a small marketing firm for few imported diagnostic equipments, Transasia Bio-Medicals today, is India’s largest In-vitro Diagnostic Company. Headquartered in Mumbai, it offers wide range of products and services across various segments - Biochemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, ESR, Immunology, Urinalysis, Critical Care, Diabetes Management, Molecular Diagnostics and Microbiology. Transasia Bio-Medicals Ltd. has fortified its position further and is now recognised as India’s top manufacturer and exporter of diagnostic instruments and reagents in over 100 countries. Infact, it is the first Indian company to manufacture and export sophisticated, state of the art blood analyzers and reagents. Currently it has over 50,000 installations across India.

Transasia is a part of the ERBA Mannheim GmbH Group (Germany). Its products are exported to countries like Italy, Germany, France, Australia, China, Turkey, USA, Latin America, Africa, Russia, Middle East, SAARC & Asia. It has also set up a unit in Germany, ERBA Mannheim GmbH Group. Through this unit, the company has made 10 acquisitions in countries including the Czech Republic, Russia, Germany, France and the United States in the past five years.

Manufacturing Setup
Transasia has three manufacturing units, which are located at Daman (Gujarat), Mumbai (Maharashtra) and Baddi (Himachal Pradesh). The entire range of clinical chemistry analyzers, elisa readers and microplates at these plants. All units are ISO 9001:2008 certified.

Tranasia product range includes Clinical Chemistry; Immunoassay; Diabetes; Urinalysis; Hematology; Microbiology; Critical Care; Coagulation; ESR and Blood Banking

Financially it has done quite well. Its revenue has grown 20 to 25 per cent annually for 20 years. In the FY2016, it clocked the total revenue of around Rs. 473 crore with operating profit close to Rs. 162 crore. Other income was Rs. 22 crore. With Interest and Depreciation at Rs. 5 crore and Rs. 20 crore respectively, PBT was Rs. 158 crore. PAT was around Rs. 136 crore. Company has very high debt on its Balance Sheet. Total debt in FY16 stood at just about Rs. 135 crore.
